Dr. Emmanuel Temiotan Ogbomida is a distinguished academic, researcher, and institutional leader with a profound expertise in ecotoxicology, environmental forensics, renewable energy technologies, and sustainable innovation. He currently serves as the Acting Director of the National Centre for Energy and Environment (NCEE), a research Centre of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), situated at the University of Benin. His work is defined by a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, policy-oriented research, and fostering transformative partnerships to address complex sustainability challenges across Africa.
Prior to his appointment at NCEE, Dr. Ogbomida served as the Director of Research, Innovation, and Consultancy at Copperbelt University (CBU) in Zambia, where he significantly reshaped the university’s research ecosystem. Among his most notable achievements was leading the establishment of the Mukuba University Innovation Pod (UniPod) in collaboration with the UNDP Accelerator Lab. The Mukuba UniPod has become a dynamic hub for youth-led innovation, applied research, and entrepreneurship, positioning CBU as a key player in Zambia’s innovation and development landscape.
An Associate Professor of Ecotoxicology and Environmental Forensics at the University of Benin, Dr. Ogbomida holds a Ph.D. in Ecotoxicology and Pollution Studies and a B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Benin, along with an M.Sc. in Ecology and Environmental Biology from the University of Ibadan. His interdisciplinary research spans pollution monitoring, toxicological risk assessment, sustainable energy systems, waste management, and climate change adaptation. His scholarly output includes numerous peer-reviewed publications, technical reports, and policy briefs, earning him fellowships and awards for his outstanding scientific contributions.
Dr. Ogbomida’s impact extends well beyond academia. He is actively engaged in national and regional development efforts through his roles on several technical committees under the Energy Commission of Nigeria. At the international level, Dr. Ogbomida has cultivated strategic partnerships with institutions such as Hokkaido University in Japan, Lancaster University, and the University of Sheffield. These collaborations focus on joint research, capacity building, and technological exchange in areas such as renewable energy, environmental monitoring, and clean technology innovation. His vision is to leverage global academic networks to catalyze local solutions that drive sustainable development across Africa.
Dr. Ogbomida exemplifies the role of a 21st-century scholar-practitioner, bridging research, policy, and innovation. He is deeply committed to reimagining research institutions like the NCEE as engines of national and continental transformation. Under his leadership, the NCEE is being repositioned as a Centre of Excellence that will generate evidence-based insights, innovative technologies, and skilled professionals to support Africa’s transition to a green, inclusive, and climate-resilient future.
